And yes - in reply to 'waamo':

It is a 'Request For Information' mentioning the Section 172 thingamabob

We were typing at the same time lol. You need to return that form. Wait until the 6 months are up then send it back. Get free proof of posting from the post office. That way if they claim they didn't receive it then they have to refute your evidence.

They will probably offer you a speed awareness course or a fine and points even though it's timed out. This kind offer can be ignored.
  • Thank you everyone!

Yes - checking the wording it seems that I have to reply to the Section 172 Notice by filling in the form on the reverse and stating that I was the driver at the time of the offence.

I will send this back to them (accidentally... not) after the 6 month period is over. Thereafter, I shall await and see what comes through the post.

No probleemo and many thanks for your help everyone - I will keep you all posted :-)

The process is pretty automated. Once they get that form back a conditional offer gets spewed out without anyone looking at dates.

Once your conditional offer times out then they will start preparing the paperwork to prosecute you. It's at this point the dates will be flagged up and all paperwork will stop so don't be alarmed at getting a kind offer to buy a few points.

I would also advise taking a photocopy of the completed paperwork just in case you need to demonstrate it was returned. If you have proof of posting then if they say they didn't get it they also have to prove they didn't get it. That's very difficult to do.
  • Absolutely will do. And that makes a lot of sense. Many many thanks dear waamo - you're a life saver!
