Defaulted account Questions

Morning All,
I had an account at university 5 years ago with Santander but when I received my loan in year 2 of uni, I decided to get it paid into a separate account to manage money better (it was not explained to me that this is not allowed when opening the account). Santander didn't like this and started charging interest to my account. The only contact they made to me was sending letters to my home address, knowing full well I lived at university. I thought everything was fine but during me not knowing about the account being in trouble, over a six month period Santander added loads of interest and marked it as a default account. I disputed everything with Santander in branch at the time and they weren't willing to allow me to continue using the account so i paid it off in full over 4 months from the moment i knew about it.
My two questions now are:
1. After six years, and my credit score is no longer affected, will it mean that it won't affect a mortgage assessment?
2. Also, is there anything i can do to appeal the default account considering the information i mentioned above and the fact I've no other history of late payments?
Any help will be greatly appreciated with this, I wasn't even allowed a bank switch recently because of this unfair history.

You are not still banking with Santander?0

The address they will send correspondence to is the one registered on your account. If you didn't change that then the bank is not able to contact you.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yeah the account is closed now. I just want to find a way to get a good credit score.0

Unless you are going to apply for a mortgage within the next 12 months, why not just let it drop off your credit file? To be honest, I don't think you have any chance of them doing anything about it after five years. As was stated previously, it was basically your fault for
1) Not adhering to their T&C's, and
2) Not providing an address where they could contact you.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
I appreciate it was my fault for being ignorant. I'm just trying to fix it as I now know better. Thanks for the advice.
The things I really wanna know is, will it truly drop off my credit file, or will there always be a way to find it about me?0
