I was only jesting... at least I think I was.

But I'm sure someone in a bank tech department somewhere has pointed out if we can do it to our pets then why not to humans? ;)

No need. There are ATMs being developed, and some in use, that use the pattern of the veins in your fingers instead of cards to identify you.

Yes, from the TfL website -
If you're from outside London and have a bus pass issued by another English council, you can use it, at any time, to travel free on buses displaying the red roundel.

My council website (Cambridgeshire) says that only those of state pension age (66) are eligible to apply for a concessionary bus pass.

Your council is wrong, on at least 2 counts. Firstly from: https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-elderly-person-bus-pass
If you live in England or Wales
In England you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach the female State Pension age, whether you’re a man or a woman.
Secondly the pension age being set to 66 for both men and women doesn't happen until late 2018 or so. At this moment in time the pension age for women is 64.

In Lincolnshire we have had Bus Passes for some years now. I know that we can use them in London, because we visit friends in High Barnet, stay at a Guest House on the edge of Barnet/North Finchley and use the Tube to travel into Central London, or to our friends' home. I recall my shock when I got onto a bus from N. Finchley to H. Barnet and asked how often they run: "Every 8 minutes mate, 24/7!" Coming from a rural area that has about 8 buses a day (none on winter Sundays) that almost made me fall of the bus.

Contactless: my missus would not have one, based on mistrust and having worked in a bank many years ago. Having watched me use mine for over 12 months, she eventaully ordered one and uses it more than I do now. Tells her friends how useful they are.... ;)
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

If he doesn't like using his contactless card, tell him to download a banking app and he will be able to use his mobile phone instead.

    OK....I'm only joking :rotfl:
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

    Thanks TadleyBaggie,

I put in the 66 so that's my bad. However, 64 is still not 60 as an earlier poster suggested.

Of course what he meant is you'll have three buses arrive in the space of 5 mins, then nothing for the next 30, especially if you are waiting at Tally Ho Corner with the wind blasting round the Arts Depot ;)

The best bit is if you have the time, a free bus pass can take you all the way from North Finchley to Oxford Street without a penny to pay.

    Why does it matter exactly?

And why the need to force your opinion on him?

    Let him be.

This made me laugh. If we'd just 'let him be' he would still be using white fivers. My mother has been trying to modernise him since turn-ups went out of fashion.

And anyway, contactless isn't an 'opinion', it's a thing - and it isn't going to go away (well, not until something else comes along). I now have a vision of mother marching towards the ticket barrier with her contactless card at the ready, and father trying to remember where he put his cycle clips...

But seriously - many thanks to everyone. They went to London, they used their contactless cards without difficulty, had a lovely time, and got home safe and sound.
