Confused on new insurance quote

Options
Hi,

I have been a named driver on my partner's policy and as we have now two cars in the house we are getting two separate insurance policies. A policy in his name for his car and one in my name for my car.

However I am a bit confused on the question about claims when I search for quotes online.

I had two accidents in the last 5 years one was my fault and one wasn't. When asking for a quote they ask have you had an accident in the last five years I add the two accidents. I get that

However I want to add my partner on my policy as a named driver as he sometimes drives my car especially when we go on long journeys. To the same question do I add these accidents again when I add him as a named driver? As it asks have you made any claims on a policy in your name? But does not mean we are adding 4 accidents (2 for me and 2 for him) when we only had 2?

It is confusing me

Thanks for any help

You do not need to declare accidents for named drivers unless they have claimed on your policy.

So why do the ask if it's not a material fact?

when you fill in the form for a quote the named driver is added then it asks how long have they held a licence and have they had any claims and the answer to that is yes and should be declared at the stage of adding the named driver

the question is has the driver had any accidents in the last five years not has the driver made any claims so you do need to declare any accidents had by the named drivers

    Wrong (dangerously!)

    Ignore this advice.

Following it will mean you run the risk of getting your policy voided (possibly after a claim - meaning the claim will be rejected, and if it is off a third party and successful your insurer will come to you to reimburse them)

But in answer to your question no you don't need to add them again. You will only need to add any accidents he has had.
