Skilled quality labour circa £200 a day, plus £100 a day for a labourer.

We had a patio put in last week - 12sq m excavated, ground stabilisation membrane, hardcore and paved in sandstone. £1125 +VAT, and the work took them 2 days (materials included in price).

Thanks fishybusiness. That would make it approx £900- £1500 as they have confirmed thats it's a maximum of a 5 day job (but likely 3 days).

So the quote I've had would seem high then.

It's difficult to pull quotes apart IMO, easiest way is to ask roughly how many days they expect to be onsite, and divide it up.

I say it is difficult as I know tree surgeon charging £400 a day. He has his ground man to pay, insurances, chipper to run and feed with blades, soon adds up and likely he won't see any more than £200 out of that.

Take your quote, say 2 skilled men onsite, that's 5 or 6 days. I guess your other quotes will help you decide how long it will take.

Thanks fishybusiness. I have asked him and he has said 1 skilled and 1 labourer for 3-5 days. The quote is based on 4 days and if it takes 3 then it will be slightly less but if it takes 5 then it will be a bit more!

The labour cost will vary depending on where you live, but if you budget for between £75 and £100 per square metre for the preparation and to bed the slabs down on a mortar mixture, you won’t be too far off. (The cost of the patio slabs is on top of this, although the other materials should be included.)
Don’t forget to ask whether VAT is included, and to make sure that the quotation includes the cost of clearing up after themselves and disposing of all the waste.
Finally, get it in writing and make sure you collect at least three quotations.

    That's a brilliant price...the best I've had is £3,350.
