Domestic sprinkler system

Hi all, first time posting, so hopefully I'm following protocol :T
I live in a 2 bed terrace and have decided to convert the loft. This will be fine, with new fire doors fitted around the house but I've been advised that I also need to install a sprinkler system.
I've looked around the net but there aren't really many places to find costings, comparisons, recommendations etc.
Could anyone share whether they've had a system installed and view they went about it. Is there anything I should look out for?
Any pointers gratefully received as I'm nowhere at the moment
Many thanks
Simon

I'm just about to renovate our utility room and, influenced by recent tumble drier fire scares, intend to fit a sprinkler system. The parts are available from Ebay or Amazon.0

Well, that's a biggy! Hopefully you have a specialist in your area that does them regularly or the costs might be prohibitive...
One of the main things will be your water supply pressure and volume.
Just Google for domestic sprinkler contractors in your area and they'll be able to advise, they normally provide the design and specifications for building control as part of their service - imo it's best to get that signed off before starting workThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. The cheaper option is to ensure that the stairwell is protected to the front door. Means stud walls and fire doors in the right places. Crucially, the kitchen is the modt important room to be cut off from that stairwell with a fire door.
Otherwise, of the top of my head, a four storey house for us in central London was in the region of £3,000 inc VAT for a mist fire suppression system. In the Midlands, three storeys, it was £1,800.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My neighbour had to have a sprinkler system fitted in a new build house condition of planning approval due to restricted fire engine access.
Apart from the cost of the system in the house they had to install a new 100 mm dedicated water main.
Hate to think how much it all cost.0 -
You don't need a sprinkler in most cases. The mist system is perfectly adequate with the BC we use.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Have had varied responses from different councils on it, we now just use a fire consultancy to argue with building control, they usually pay for themselvesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
An argument for private BC, I think!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Unfortunately most of our current work is with Scottish local authorities and we don't get private BC up here, we always use it where we can!!Doozergirl wrote: »An argument for private BC, I think! This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
