Which browser do you prefer - desktop pc?

Options
In fairness I have all three installed (chrome/IE and Firefox). I currently have Chrome set to default but just lately I can really hear my pc whirring away when I have Chrome running and when I look at task manager the CPU is really high, sometimes 100%. I'm wondering if I should ditch it all together and set one of the other ones as my default. Is it just a case personal preference?

Why does Chrome spawn half a dozen processes when you launch it? I use Firefox mainly.

But I also use Chrome and Opera, and some stupid programs still lauch IE.

No idea why?? Thunderbird is one that lauches IE, Glasswire is another after an update.
IE is not the default browser Firefox is. So why does a Mozilla product launch IE?

I also mainly use Firefox with Opera as an alternative, but find some sites still seem to prefer IE to work "properly"

I also have Flashpeak slimjet, which is based on Chrome but says it is slimmer & speedier, rarely use it so cannot really comment, perhasp this may suit your set up?

Currently have Comodo Dragon on this laptop, it's another browser that is the same as Chrome but without Google having its nose in your web traffic. A couple of sites I use still insist on IE such as Udemy online training and some business interface sites.

I have most browsers installed, Firefox is my main browser because of the plugins, without them I would have probably dumped it.

I am a power user and need plugins to manage and recover memory

I have Google installed but disabled from updating and I very rarely use it.

I have Opera installed and use it every day, it is quite nippy

If I were you I would install Firefox with Tab Memory Usage and Free Memory 2.0, you would be surprised how much memory some sites use. Microsoft Hotmail/Outlook uses 127mb typically and it grows.

Once you know what sites are making you run slow you can do something about them, you may find that plugins in Chrome or Firefox prevent those sites slowing down your PC

Some PC review sites have 26 ad spying widgets, each sharing data about you, Ghostery sorts them out.

I use Colorful Tabs and set it to flash which tab is active, another benefit is it returns nice square tabs.

For Privacy I use Flashblock, uBlock Origin, Ghostery, Better privacy and Cookie Controller

For video I have You Tube High Definition and Ant Video Downloader

I have a few other browsers used for technical reasons.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

I prefer Firefox above anything else. The UI is bearable (unlike other browsers) and there are so many essential add-ons that I couldn't live without. I just wish it was a bit more stable and that add-on conflicts/behaviour could be isolated so badly-written add-ons didn't cause mysterious problems.

Chrome is good for media-rich sites. I use it for video streaming and shopping.

Opera has some great features, but I can't stand the UI. I find it horrible to use. It's one of those things that people either love or hate.

Why does Chrome spawn half a dozen processes when you launch it?

Chrome isolates components in memory, so that if one crashes, it doesn't crash the whole browser. It sounds like it could be related to that.

The Electrolysis Project will do the same for Firefox. And Project Quantum will give Firefox a completely new rendering engine.

Hopefully this will make Firefox better, but... who knows... :-/

I don't understand any of that! I used IE because it was there, then it stopped working so I use Chrome. It works for me.

I've always liked SeaMonkey. It's a Gecko based browser but has retained a more traditional interface (with menus etc) than Firefox.

Strictly speaking it's the SeaMonkey Suite and is a descendant of the old Mozilla Suite, including an email client, similar to Thunderbird but again retaining a more traditional approach, also an HTML editor and an IRC chat client.

I use classic theme restorer for firefox. Along with noscript, and uBlock origin.

One thing that annoys me, change for the sake of change. Android phones are the worst for that i think. One update adds something then they remove it and then they add it again.

My windows 7 install looks exactly like windows 98. It works and there is no need to change. Remember Vista's video desktop? Always crashing. What a great idea (NOT).

And i have reinstated my quick launch toolbar in every version of windows also.
