Can you tell me why this is
I have been insuring my car with Direct Line for a number of years, (yes I do look around before I renew) each year I get a renewal notice in the post so I go to D.L website and put my identical info in and end up with a cheaper price, well that does not surprise me but when I ring up and say ‘can you match this online price' they say no so each year I cancel my policy and take a new one out online totally mad if you ask me. Am I missing something?

You get a new customer discount when you are a new customer.

You don't get a new customer discount when you renew, cos you aren't a new customer.

Some insurers are getting savvy to this and cross checking against their own system when they do all the other checks pre quote. This could then block any existing clients for applying as a new customer.

I'm surprised DLG don't do this already!

SAGA wont even let you get a quote, a message pops up saying see your renewal. And no wonder because the renewal was way more than the prices quoted on the website.

Parents didnt bother asking them to match quotes from elsewhere. Just said no thanks to the renewal and went elsewhere.

SAGA appear to treat some customers as old and stupid.
