  • If you live alone and don't require a 3 bed the housing association will only allow you a 1 bed. Apologies if you are a family who needs 3 bedrooms


    Just re read your post, are you sure that as a retired person you are allowed a 3 bed?

    Is a three floor property the best to go for as you get older ? Stairs in these properties tend to be steeper than in a two floor house.

    I'm not sure you're comparing like for like, as assuming your new job / income are constant with renting or SO, then
    *Renting: -£42k on rent, still have £45k to invest with more flexibility and perhaps better returns than house
    *SO: -$18k on rent, -£2k on legals etc, -£xx on maintenance/repairs, £45k locked into house, which only grows if property prices increase (SO can be harder to sell due to restrictions)
