Bathroom basin question

Hi all DIY people.
I have a quick question about bathroom washbasins. We are having a new bathroom installed, and I am trying to keep costs down as far as possible. I have found a bathroom suite which is really nice, but it includes a pedestal wasbasin.
Unfortunately, the way the room is constructed (a loft conversion) we are building a bulkhead type thing for the washbasin to sit in, as we are stuck for head room.
Is there any reason that I joiner wouldn't be able to set the washbasin portion (not using the pedestal) into a worktop type surface? Or do we have to fork out for a specialised "recessed/inset" basin. I don't really want to pay for one of those ones that sits on the worktop.
What's the difference between a regular pedestal basin and an inset one? Any moneysaving suggestions such appreciated.
Here's the suite we are thinking about: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Focus-Bathroom-Suite-with-1700-Double-Ended-Square-Bath_W0QQitemZ270118825144QQihZ017QQcategoryZ112557QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
Does anyone think that a square bath will look odd with that toilet and basin? They aren't too close together.
Cheers,
dj

The basin will not fit into a counter top etc, you will need this type

a pedestal basin isnt designed to fit onto a worktop. (or a wall hung basin).
an inset basin is, it has a lip all around, that fits over the top and can be sealed with sealant.
its always possible to make a basin fit, by cutting out the correct sized hole etc... or by putting the worktop, over the basin. ala a belfast sink style.
but the work involved and the payoff isnt really worth the bother.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
Looks like buying that suite is going to be a pain then. I'm now worried about buying it, buying a sink seperately and it not matching. Do you think this could be a problem or is a white suite just white?
Toots: The bath is oblong on the outside and inside as well. I love it, but am prepared to make the sacrifice if it's going to look silly. There is a picture on the link in my first post (it's just underneath the toilet and sink pic), but it's quite difficult to see.
Cheers all,
