Unlicensed Vehicle - DVLA letter

Hi,

I have received a letter from DVLA asking £93 due to my unlicensed vehicle spotted on my home address, however this was an oversight.

The vehicle was given to me by grandad and I have not driven it, just kept it on the road outside my house.

DVLA then sent me a reminder letter that I needed to rac or SORM the vehicle - to which I did, I filled in the SORN., and then a few weeks later sold the vehicle.

This seems like a harsh fine when it was an oversight, they remibddd me I had to do tax or sorn, which I then did.

This is my first car and thought tax was on the vehicle not individual.

Any advice?

Pay it, being on public road, driven or not makes no difference, also if you declared SORN (Stationary Off Road Notification) that was also wrong if it was still on public road.

You declared it off road then kept it on the road?

Was it insured?

SORN has always expired on change of keeper, right from when it was first introduced 20 years ago.
If a car is not taxed, it MUST be SORNed.
If a car is not insured, it MUST be SORNed.
If it is not both taxed and insured, it MUST NOT be on the road.

This is nothing to do with driving it - it is illegal to keep a car that is not taxed or SORNed, even off the road on private property.

So it was on the road!

If you declare SORN, you have to move it off the road! The clue is in the name.

As the car can't pay the tax itself, the registered keeper has to do it - which presumably is you.
