Shutters ..where to buy & how long do they take to get fitted?

Howdy!
In the last week of may, I will be moving into my new flat.
I'm getting a new bathroom put in at the moment, which should be finished by this time next week.
I've decided to get shutters for the living room and master bedroom.

Just wondering who to use , and when to get a quote.
I will need them fitted . Hilary's are on TV a lot and have a sale on .
Or are there other , cheaper and good quality people I can use.

Please advise

Thanks :)

Depends where in the country you are. I can rec someone great in south London. Hilary's messed my friend around no end and was about 3 months later than planned to install. Dont go with them

The guys who did my shutters also said that most suppliers in the UK all get them made abroad at the same factory in China, including John Lewis. The only difference being a small shiny sticker in the corner of the shutters. Most expensive sticker ever basically.

I also managed to negotiate the price down but about 30% by offering a reviw on their site, photos etc. so maybe try the same.

    Hope that helps.

Hillarys definitely depend on quality of local sales person and installer. We've had Hillarys shutters fitted throughout most of our house, and are great. Worked out cheaper than local companies, but we were buying a lot of windows so they were willing to drop their prices - not so much wriggle room on a couple of windows.

Our sales person had samples to show us, as you can't really choose/review from a brochure.
  • Thanks for the replies :)
How long roughly, would it take to have shutters fitted ?
Rough cost for a living room ( bay window) and bedroom??

    Thanks

From Hillarys, it took 6 weeks to manufacture, but ultimately took 8 weeks from order to fitting due to trying to get a mutually convenient date for installation.

Price was £800 for a large 3-window bay, and £400 for a circa 1800mm wide window.
  • Thanks comicgeek:)
  • We had Bromley Blinds fit ours just before Christmas. We had just one set in the living room bay window. Cafe style so just the bottom set. They look amazing and get loads of comments. From memory it was something like £380 for mdf (3yr guarantee), about £500 for real wood (5yr guarantee) and they had a special offer on for the teak which made it about £580 but as we paid it all at once instead of half before and half at the end so we got it for £550 ish. We went for teak mainly for the 10yr guarantee. Any colour you want - we chose white. Very easy and stress free. I believe B&Q do shutters via a 3rd party called California Shutters but I've never used them. They took about 7 weeks as they had to get made in the far east as Tizzle said.
She believed she could, so she did.

    Doesn't sound too bad
Cafe style for the lower parts of windows also is what I'm after
