SKY Mobile Presale credit check

Options
Tried to get a sky mobile phone deal today but failed my equifax credit check. Funny thing is that my credit score sits at 480 and that is considered excellent. Experian credit check is 930..........my addresses and bank account all check out, no failed DD's in short I am pristine when it comes to credit checks.........

Anybody got any ideas as to what went wrong? The sky rep said that my credit score does not count when doing a credit check, so what is the point of having a credit rating. If it were to be poor then I could understand a check failing but excellent rating.......leaves me more than perplexed

Correct. There is no such thing as a credit score. It's just a number generated by CRAs and they all have different scales. As shown by the fact on one you have 480 and another one is 930.

A credit rating is different and is what the lenders use. However, different lenders have different criteria when it comes to accepting a customer for credit. And that is something that they will never divulge.

In your case, it could be something as simple as the person you spoke to entering your address slightly incorrectly, or a typo in your date of birth, so the information doesn't match to what is held on record.

Alternatively, have you ever had Sky for TV/BB etc and there may have been an outstanding debt that has now dropped off your credit file?

No outstanding debts that have dropped off anywhere I am 100% credit worthy and even Equifax said they could not understand and that there should not be a problem. As to my addresses I have given them correctly. My credit rating and history is excellent with no defaults, electoral roll presence etc etc. My personal phone is with EE and I was about to end my contract with o2 and transfer it to Sky. So, if I am not credit worthy then how have I got two contracts with two different providers, one of which I am so glad I did not end.
I am angry and I am not going to let this go until I get to the bottom of this nonsense. BTW Thank you for your reply

Be aware that no lender is legally obliged to extend you credit, even a mobile phone provider.

I'd cease being "angry" if I were you...

Thanks for your reply but as I stated earlier, I am going to get to the bottom of this. If there was a valid reason I would put up my hands and ok their response.

I got to the bottom of the problem! The address database is different from the one used by Experian and my addresses had to be corrected to what they have but their database is inaccurate. One address is seen as one house when in fact it has a total of 4 individually numbered flats. Hence the discrepancy

Much easier to think of karma - if they don't want you because of their carp internal systems, go to someone who does. I'd never 'beg' a supplier to give me credit.
