When I was young (last year LOL) an elderly Glaswegian couple across the road were my surrogate grandparents. My "gran" used to come out with some real gems such as "controversial pill" and she had a relative who played "babbington" every week
They were a lovely couple who had the best Hogmanay parties ever. Happy days!
