Nationwide

I applied for. Nationwide bank account over 5 weeks ago and was accepted online. Sent a letter asking for one proof of address and one of name - again sent off. They have now come back asking for proof of address for somewhere I lived more than two and a half years ago.....I have nothing!

Did you have a bank account or other accounts then? If so, could you ask that bank/company to send you a printed statement from that time (i.e. a 3-ish year old one), with that address on?

Or would your old landlord/mortgage company send you something confirming your address at that time?

I'm not sure if it's possible to get old copies of the electoral register, but that would be another possible solution.

    Thanks for the ideas!

I changed bank 2 years ago so that wouldn't work. I guess I could ask previous landlord but they live overseas so may take a while! Thought about electoral register but council will charge me to write this letter

All very strange as have been on electoral register everywhere I have lived. Never been asked to verify a previous address before!

They will take letters from the HMRC and DWP usually.
You can ask a utility provider to send you a paper statement.
Annual Council Tax bill is usually acceptable too.

As an update, I found an old letter which they have accepted but account is still not open. Not able to get through on the phone.

6 weeks and the account still not open, in this day and age it sounds crazy!
