I have a decent job so I pay our rent and all the bills, payg sim card. We recently got a 1 month rolling contract broadband.
So I'd say his credit history was just as empty as mine.

My current employer did get me my NI number.

Rolling broadband contracts aren't normally on credit files. The only telecoms provider I know who adds to your credit file is BT.

Try Nationwide flex basic, that gives u contactless card.

Allright, I'll try that, will get back to you.
  • OP you say that Virgin Money does not offer you a good service and that you have been in UK for only six months.
Most basic accounts that I know of do not offer contactless on their debit cards. Surely any debit card can be used for online transactions?

If 2 banks have refused you an account then there must be something on your credit files here which is spooking them - check all 3 CRA's.
Only you know if any funny money/transactions have gone through your account - please tell me that you have not accepted any monies through your account for a 'friend' shall we say?

Well, compared to my home country where contactless and online banking iis pretty much standard.
The service is !!!!!! because they lack these.

You CAN pay online with your debit card, you just can't transfer money to another account.

    What CRAs should I check?

No, I have not done that.

You should consider trying to get a sim only contract instead of payg.

No, I have not done that.

Experian Call Credit and Equifax are the 3 main CRA's.
If you are squeaky clean check all 3 in case somebody has impesonated you to try to apply for credit etc.

These things are pretty much standard in the UK too, but not necessarily for Basic Current Accounts.

A Basic Current Account is one that is usually offered to someone who doesn't qualify for a Full Service Current Account, usually because they are unable to pass the bank/building society credit scoring process. It appears that Virgin Money only offer a Basic Bank account rather than a Full Service account.

There was a suggestion that you try to open a Nationwide FlexBasic account but you will have to apply for one of their full service account first and if you are not accepted for that, you will be ineligible for the FlexBasic as you already have a current account.

I should have typed quicker as it appears the problem is solved!
