AOL Router in France

I will be moving to France next week.

I have an AOL wireless router.

Will I be able to connect it to my laptop in France and use it to sit out in the sun.

I am not with AOL over there, I'm with Orange and France Telecom.

Thanks

  • Don't know about the router, but why are you with Orange? They are the most unreliable service here in France.
We use Teleconnect with the Anglopack. For an all in fee we get ADSL, plus unlimitted calls to UK, Plus we pay 3€ for 2 hours to NZ.
Oh yes the Teleconnect staff speak good English.

I've been with Orange in France for 3 years and am happy with them.

So far I've never had any problems.

I pay 19.99 euros a month for ADSL broadband, and 15 to FT.

Disagree. I've been with Orange here for over 3 years and no problems whatsoever unlike friends on Club Internet.

Whether I choose Orange when I go back to the UK is another matter entirely!

To answer the OP though, sorry don't know :(

Can you access the configuration screen on the AOL router to find out if it allows you to change the adsl login username/password (keep a note of or backup the existing settings first!). If it does then I reckon you should be able to use it to connect to Orange in France (by entering your Orange username/password instead of AOL's).

On the other hand have you considered using the Orange Livebox in France? - it has many more features than the UK version.

    Thanks Cledor.

I know nothing about where to find the configuration screen or username/password.

I'll have to ask a friend to come and have a look.

There's also a lot of stickies at the top of the techie forum, just look for your router (possibly a Netgear) and follow the info given. Usually http://192.168.0.1 gets you into Netgears.

As I say, I'll have to get a friend to do what you have suggested.

    I'm not that computer minded!
