Parent & child ticket horizon

Today I visited Sainsbury's which was incredibly busy but I found an empty space & parked in it. It was a parent & child space.

Upon my return to the car a high viz jacket man handed me a £60 parking charge notice (£30 if paid early) because I didn't have a child with me.

Wow, I didn't know that was a thing. Disabled spaces I'd understand but I had no idea the parent/child spaces would land you a fine!

From what I have read on here so far, I shouldn't pay but should complain to Sainsbury's & appeal. Should I wait for them to send me a letter? If they do? Or should I be the first to make contact?
Much appreciated

P&C bays are no more than a gimmick that detract from the true value of disabled bays.

How did the high viz bod know you weren't picking up a child child+adult carer/relative inside, or you hadn't dropped off a child to go shopping with parent/relative/carer - swapping car seats in the process?

  • The ticket has an 'observed time' and 'issue time' so I'm guessing he watched me leave the car & return.

I've started by complaining to Sainsbury's on twitter. Next step is the branch manager.

Horizon are BPA members and generally easy to beat with a two stage appeal. It isn't cancelled until the scammers say it is cancelled, so you need it in writing from them, not just a Sainsbugs manager.

Don't miss the appeal deadline. If you have to apppeal, send the BPA template in blue from the NEWBIES thread around day 26 by whatever method the PCN tells you to use.
Copy and paste and send the template.

Do not pay, do not ignore, do not reveal who was driving, do not miss the appeal deadline.

If the parking person saw you leave the car, they should have stopped you there and then in order to mitigate their loss. This will be an additional appeal point when you beat them at PoPLA.

read the NEWBIES thread to better understand your potential next steps including sending the template appeal. However it's highly likely Sainsburys will cancel this if you get angry enough and complain loudly enough. Get on to the manager now, and customer services. Give them loads of grief that you are a loyal customer who spends £££s. They should look after their customers not use them as fodder for greedy PPC's who have no interest in fair car park management, only making as much profit as they can from unsuspecting motorists.

Customers should be able to shop with Sainsburys in confidence not worry about potentially ending up in court just for being a customer. tell them the nefarious practices of these companies is well known and well documented. So much so that it was the subject of parliamentary debate recently

  • Thanks for all of the advise. The store manager wants to cancel the ticket.

And isn't this entire parasite *industry* a complete and utter waste of retail Managers' time?! Stupid, isn't it?

For the love of God when will the Supermarket Head Office suits realise that almost every location has no 'carmageddon' doomsday issue with parking whatsoever. Sainsburys is hardly a destination of choice for all day parking.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
