NCD History Question

A bit of a random one but does anyone know how long insurance companies keep information on customers?
I'm trying to track down my full NCD history going right back to 2007/8 and finding all my paperwork has proven challenging even though I'm a paperwork fiend by trade! I wondered whether I could approach the insurance companies that used to cover me (off the top of my head they include Hastings, esure, insure, swiftcover) and ask them for their file on me but does anyone know how long they have to keep records and how I'd go about it to fill in the blanks from my missing years?

Probably 6 years. They have have older stuff on file but probably not legally obliged to.
Why do you need to fill in the blanks? What does your last renewal say?
It would probably cost you for each company you contact to provide your data stored also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Sometimes it's difficult to get proof of last years NCD . . .
Your query does pose the question, why? Normally insurances companies work only on proof from your previous insurer. You could contact them and ask, but if that produces no results, you could possibly try spending £10 on a DSAR to each company. Don't know if that'd work0 -
Any proof over 2 or 3 years wont be worth anything though.
If there is a break between now and one of the companies you contact your new insurer will wonder why the break and if you have used that NCD on a policy since that date.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
