Boiler controls

I have a boiler control that looks like this:

The thing I miss is that it does not have a button for '1 hour' for heating and hot water. My last boiler controls did, and it was very useful.

Is there a model I could get that has the extra 1 hour button?

Also, there are two other bits that go with this boiler control. One is hard-wired in and seems to be a wireless device that communicates with the thermostat. The thermostat itself is a free-standing thing (I thought it was a kitchen timer when I first moved in, and it took me a while to work out what it was). Here is a picture of a similar device:

I don't really like this because the thermostat part is difficult to use and has batteries that are difficult to fit. Is it possible to use something different (ie easier).

Electrician said he doesn't know much about choosing boiler controls, but he can fit new ones for me if I choose them.

The latest version of the timer you have, which is the one in the screwfix link has a boost facility. You would press and hold the advance button and it allows you to boost for 1/2 or 3 hours. It would be a direct swap for your original timer with no wiring alterations req.

If you don't like the room stat a British gas hive will plug in to your wireless receiver and need no additional wiring. Do you have a combi or hot water tank.

Hot water tank and old fashioned floor-standing (although relatively new) Worcester Bosch boiler.

Tell me more about the hive. I would prefer something simple (like previous ones I've had where you have a dial with number on, and nothing else is required).

The hive is a remote controlled wireless programmable timer that also controls you hot water. You'd have a room stat to replace the stat you have already and your timer and receiver will be replaced with 1 dual channel receiver. You then control it via a app on your phone/ tablet. They are very simple to use. There are quite a few companies that make similar controls such as the google nest but I'd say the hive for you as it will plug directly on to your original controls back plates so will be a simpler job for the electrician/ heating guy.

To get a old fashion dial stat you would probably have to do away with your wireless stat and run a cable from the timer or wiring centre to where ever you want your new room stat to go.
