Gmail putting my emails in annoying categories

I didn't ask for or setup the option of category folders for my emails in my gmail account but I have it's curse bestowed on me and I can't shake it off. There is nothing in settings using an ipad but I managed to de-select this on my windows pc but this has no effect on my ipad preferences. Many times I have missed emails that are important due to it throwing it in a different folder.

Any way to stop this curse please ?

do you mean social and promotion catagories? if so, you can turn it off in settings

via pc

>settings >inbox >make sure only primary 'checked'

via android app

>settings >email address >inbox categories >untick any categories not needed

don't know about apple but if you can switch off on other devices you should be able to do it on apple tablet

No you can't switch it off on a tablet. I managed it on the pc but thought that would have defaulted to my ipad as it's the same email.
