My 14yo daughter recently went to McDonalds with some friends. They peeled off the monopoly stickers on their food and had won an item each, which were a free drink and an ice cream. They went to redeem them and were told that they couldn't because they are under 16.

Looking at McDonalds website, it says an under 16 can't play the monopoly win win game but can redeem food with a game piece.

https://monopoly.mcdonalds.co.uk/faqs

I'm confused. If my 14yo can't play the game then how would she be able to get the sticker that says 'free drink/ice-cream etc' Can someone please clarify.

ETA- Ahhh - After several times re-reading. I think I've answered my own question, the faq would be better off worded ' Can I buy food and drink items that have game stickers on them' to which the answer is yes, but you can't redeem, sell or give away any game stickers and they're invalid if you did.

The wording is pretty clear. At no point does it say under16s can redeem food prizes, or anything near that.

All it says is they can buy McDonald's food in the monopoly branded packaging.

I didn't find it clear. The bit I was reading was

Q- 'I am under 16 - Can I still buy food and drink items with a game piece'

I took the with to mean usinga winning sticker rather than has a sticker on it.

It clearly says that under 16s can't play. That's why I was confused.

It's the word 'buy' that makes it clear to me. If you're claiming a prize, it's redeem, or claim, or swap.
