Buying a house - survey?

Hi
It's been 10yrs+ since last purchased a house & currently in the process. We have had a valuation done as part of the mortgage offer, should we have a survey done in addition to that or is the solicitor searches and valuation enough?

The solicitors searches and mortgage valuation won't tell you about any potential problems with the fabric of the house though. That is the reason to have a survey - checking for damp, broken roof, broken windows, guttering etc.
A survey is up to you really. I got one as I wanted to know if I was walking into any major problems that I hadn't seen on my 2 viewings of the house.0 -
I have paid for a survey to be done due to the age of the property and also that the other buyers dropped out after having this done but it really boils down to age and condition of home and whether you would feel comfortable NOT having had one and find rising damp for instance or another issue.0

Thanks both, I was sure in the past it was something the solicitor raised as a do you want type service? Maybe I was just imagining it0

You don't have to have one. Sometimes they can cause mortgage problems when surveyors say things like 'brick ties may need inspection' and then your mortgage company want additional surveys done.0
