Hi, just wondering if anyone can help.

Ive recently switched from my previous supplier GB Energy over to Economy Energy - contract start date 20/03/17.

My electric has moved across without any problems but my gas is still sitting there with the old supplier due to my property being a new build with a IGT.

When i contact my old supplier they say it can take up to several months for the gas to be switched and wondered if this was the norm?

Also the old supplier has now moved my gas to their new high saver tariff (nice of them) and wondered if its worth speaking to OFGEM about this?

Find it a little unfair if the new supplier is taking donkies to up date the IGT and switch my gas, while in the meantime paying higher rates through old supplier hence why my initial switch.

I switched days/weeks before my tariff was due to expireand i dont agree paying higher when i agreed to switch in the first place and gave my new supplier plenty of time to update.

Anyone been in the situation? im just abit cross about the whole thing. Thanks.

Switching gas via an IGT can cause a small delay.

But I've never known it take more than about 5-6 weeks
Even 6 weeks is only 42 days, and you can apply to switch 49 days before your contract ends and avaoid any early exit fees that may otherwise apply

Switching can be quicker e.g. I know people who have switched to Zog and are suppllied via an IGT get switched in 3-4 weeks no problem at all :)

You should be contacting your new supplier about any issues involving the switch or lack of it - your old supplier will hope you stay with them for years, not just months ;)

Hi - welcome to the forum. IGT switching takes a little longer as it is a manual process between the suppliers and the IGT. However, my last IGT switch took 30 days from application to switch, and my previous one took 18 days.

In the past, I have had Ovo tell me that the transfer process could take up to 12 weeks, but that has never been the case. I suspect that they are just putting down a marker so that they cannot be accused of breaking the 35 day transfer Licence obligation.

FWiW, the industry was planned to roll out PROJECT NEXUS nearly two years ago to, inter alia, automate the IGT switching process. The project has run into problems and Ofgem has had to step in to provide top down management.

    Thanks for the replies.

I joined economy energy on 02/03/17 (my first email from them) and due to start on 20/03/2017.

I contacted my new supplier and they've emailed someone about the IGT or something so hopefully it'll switched soon.

so far, 49 days from first contact/email 'thanking me for switching'
and 31 days since being in contract with them (20/03/2017) ... lets hope i get the switch soon i guess.

Hengus - what happens if they break the 35 days transfer licence obligation? IN my case do you think my new supplier has already put this marker down, so nothing can be done even if after 35 days and still no switch? If its based on my contract start date, it'll be by 24 April 2017.

    Hi,

I have a new build and am on a IGT (which I didn't know at the time), I was with British Gas but I switched in March to Zog. I contacted them 4th March I think and I did query if being on IGT was any additional charges (as i heard some suppliers can charge more) but thankfully no additional charges and no problems switching as they accept customers on IGT also and was no problem, I switched on 26th March as originally said in my confirmation emails, no delays etc. It is however taking British Gas a while to close my accounts..... I owed £46.50 on Gas but they owed me just over £50 on electric. So they sent a letter saying they may settle the account from money in my electric account and effectively send me the remainder, however they have taken £46.50 from my account to settle the Gas account and i'm currently waiting on a refund of the £50.xx - seems a odd way to do it but there you go...

I got a letter last week saying I should get the money back for electric within 2 weeks so just waiting for that.

However, my DD is setup with both new suppliers so all be ok, was a bit concerned as first time switching etc but all thankfully been ok and was lucky i got in before the price hikes :)

I'm glad others are reporting this. I'm a regular switcher of gas with an IGT for nearly five and half years now.
I've switched from British Gas to OVO to Ebico to Sainsbury's to EDF to GBEnergy Supply and have just instigated a switch to Green Network Energy.
The fastest I got was six weeks and that was with the switch to Ebico managed by SSE.

I've just switched from GBEnergy Supply to Green Network Energy.

I have discovered there are big changes afoot and there's a pause in gas switches until the 6th June to factor those in.
This affects IGT customers going forward and should make the process much easier and swifter in the future.

    It's called project Nexus.

I first came across this on here reading up about the provider Bulb who I've recommended a family member to switch to via CEC.
They have been charging an excess on gas for IGT customers and after the 6th June they will no longer be doing that due to these changes taking place.
