Black Bin and Recycling Collection

This feels like a stupid question, but something i want to ask. We've only ever lived in a flat before with large communal bins that were put out for us and no recycling facilities. I leave earliest in the morning, so after i left my husband heard the bin collection vehicle on our road whilst getting ready, and overheard…

As a general rule if the lid is open then the bin is overfull and may not be collected (sometimes they take a bag off the top to allow the lid to close then empty the rest of the bin.

If there is an extra bag next to the bin they are under no obligation to take it. But should take the main wheelie bin (unless the lid is not closed).

As some others have said, around here there are separate collections for recyclates and general waste.
