:beer:Hi all! OK....now proud owner of a 4k Samsung TV. Fibre now installed so in process of setting it up. I have a SCISHION V88 4K ANDROID 5.1 BOX.....but resolution on display settings is 1080p and 60 fps???!! Will be playing compressed files thru a media player ( yes, aware not full 4k quality) in h265 or hevc format or whatever format its in lol! I won,t post a link as its all over the internet....advertising at the 4k 60fps resolution. Some sites say its fake, etc etc, but can't work out why I can't click on 4k setting rather than the max shown of 1080p 60 fps???? Or am I being thick......media player , I think, can change resolution to 4k or if 1080p left will change it to 4k?
Am I being thick or missing something? Please can someone with more technical experience advise? Can't afford ANOTHER box such as fire 4k etc. Thanks!:)s

Personally, no idea.
Google say it has difficulty with 4k

The box is not that good

Hi, yes, saw those, but none say it's NOT able to play 4k, which is why I'm confused with it showing a max resolution on the box display menu but 4k elsewhere on the web? Thanks, will have a watch of the you tube vid though.0

Ah........think I 'may' have sussed it out! At present box is hdmi'd in to a 1080p toshiba tv. Received GOOD hdmi 2.0 leads today, but have not wired it to new Samsung 4k tv yet! Assume both and kodi media player will recognise the 4k and subsequently show the 4k option to highlight on both media player and tv as its connected via 2.0 hdmi?
Also, under 'display' on Android box you can highlight output source lf display to either hdmi or tv. Assume leave it on hdmi? If thats the answer above apologies for being thick!0 -
You wont get a 4K display option on a 1080P TV.0

Hi! Realise that....! Was just confused as to WHY no 4k/2160p option was in android display aetting menu! Not wiring in/setting up Samsung 4k tv yet as need tocalibbrate it but briefly hooked it up this morning, low and behold the settings appeared! Getting connection of 15 mpbs and briefly triwd a 4k film ( not sure of file format but obviously compressed? ), tried it on full 4k at both 60 fps and 30 fps, no buffering at all, fab quality but sticking and juddering a bit. Need to play wirh display settings on kodi, thw options on Android box are full 4k 50 or 60 fps? Showing 'ycbcr420' in brackets afterwards, rhe other full 4k settings just give option of 30, 25 oe 24 fps. Any idea which is best one to select?0

You seem to have a lot of questions and post a lot of threads regarding your TV and 4K TV in general. No criticism btw but can I suggest you become a member of a dedicated forum such as https://www.avforums.com/ , you'll likely get a lot more in depth answers to all your questions.0

You seem to want the 'right' answer, where there isn't always one. 50 or 60 FPS is 50 or 60 FPS. FPS is often confused with/compatible with frequency - Hz. Traditionally US TVs and transmissions are in 60 Hz, and UK in 50Hz. Most flatscreens I've seen are compatible with both, so it doesn't matter. What DOES matter, is that films are often recorded at 24 FPS. 50 Hz is roughly twice that, so works better than 60 IMO - less work to do. If you're watching something that's 24FPS, though, you really want the box, and the TV, to just be spitting out each of those 24 frames instead of trying to fill them in.
Short answer - the Hz/FPS of the SOURCE MATERIAL is now the most important 'setting'.
'ycbcr420' sounds like a colour setting. RGB or PAL would be others.0 -

The SCISHION V88 without problem seems plays movies with the resolution of 480p,720p and 1080p (24fps, 30fps, 60fps) with various codecs video such as H.264,H.265, MPEG2, MPEG4, RMVB and audio – DTS and AC3. Dolby Digital 5.1 passthrough worked fine via HDMI. Also I tested several video formats – AVI, MKV, MP4 (typical formats in which it holds the majority of movies) also videos was played fine. But, V88 can not cope with 4K playback, playback was not smooth. The following table of video samples tested for Kodi

Typical 1080p KODI
MPEG2 / MP2 2.0 – 6.6Mbps OK
MPEG4 / MP3 2.0 – 7.6Mbps OK

Thanks....looks like I'll keep it for 1080p...!!!! Might explain why it was so cheap(!) but apart from the crap 4k seems a good, easy smart android box. Will take on board the 24fps info & amend on player.
Last question....does it make ANY difference that Kodi resolution can't be moved to 2160p/4k (posted on another forum re: this-it's greyed out & 'windowed') but max 1080p? From what I read TV upscales anyway & even with the crap playback on Schision box the description at bottom still says 4k....pic quality (apart from bad playback!) is VERY good. I gather the new Kodi (& yes I know it can be used for copyrighted stuff & is a bone of contention on some boards-but I use for you tube, other 4k videos & occaisional films from legitimate sources) 17.1 you CAN alter resolution in Video/display settings to 2160p/4k-but it took so long & so much time to download (now discovered Sky were upgrading me to fibre at timew & local network issues too) I dare not download it again as it will 'overwrite' all my saved settings OR take a day to set up again (tried backing it up before but failed miserably-its very techy!). I have tried downloading 'forks' (ie variants) of Kodi so box saves them separately but as they're older they can't be amended higher than 1080p. All this may be a complete waste of time-ie trying to change to 2160p-as box recognises 4k streams as 4k & plays them wheras before when linked to a 1080p tv it would not play them at all. Any ideas kind folks?0 -
I've an idea - explore the smart features of your TV, instead of persisting with this little Android box that doesn't sound powerful enough for 4K. 4K is still very new, so to expect old mobile phone hardware to keep up (that's what's inside the box) is optimistic. It'll change in a few years...Last question....does it make ANY difference that Kodi resolution can't be moved to 2160p/4k (posted on another forum re: this-it's greyed out & 'windowed') but max 1080p?0
