Long story short, new 2016 TT had a dashboard issue. Spoke to Audi and it was a 'simple' fix but they needed it for 4 days as software was needed and that had to come from the factory.

All fine, no issues. They have lent us a 2017 A5 5 door S-Line 2.0 Quattro auto. Full leather, Satnav, puddle lights etc etc.

So we asked if we could use it as our 'normal' car and were told no issues.

We have been to France and back and added around 2K miles in the 3 weeks we have had it. No call from Audi thus far.

Morally I have an issue as it's their car and I sort of feel bad that we have been using it. However the other side is 'wahoo!' free motoring! BUT it is a very uncomfortable car!

How up front were you about it being used as your "normal" car, eg, did you inform them you were taking the car out of the country?

Of course! They supplied the relevant certification for EU usage in case we were stopped by Le' Fuzz

No problems then, just enjoy it for as long as you have it. I once owned the original TT when it first came out and within a few months it was recalled back to Germany to have the suspension sorted. I ended up with an A6 for about 3 months. There's nothing faster than a loaner car

It's not exactly 'free'. You are still paying for the fuel, and the tax and insurance on your TT while it languishes on their forecourt waiting for parts. Why do you feel bad about using a car that they agreed to loan you? The dealer will not be paying for this-it'll be borne by VAG UK.
I would have expected them to ask you to pay for the green card though.

I did nearly 10K miles in loan cars from Renault in 2015. And they paid for all the fuel I used.

I wouldn't be worried about using the A5, but I would be concerned about why a 4 day repair has now taken over 3 weeks.

UPDATE: Had a call at 18:00 from the dealer.

Our TT ready after they found a 'severe' leak on the drivers side. A 'minor' leak on the passenger side.

They took the whole interior apart. Replaced carpets and underlay (underlay riba, riba!), all door seals, A pillars and associated seals, removed dashboard, front and rear seats for inspection. All put back together etc etc.

Wow.

So loan car back at some point this weekend...

Glad you are getting the car back but two thoughts...

Firstly, just how uncomfortable can a high spec 2017 A5 be?

Secondly, any time I have had a vehicle that leaks, I've found that it always leaks, no matter how much retro-fitting a dealer tries to do. I hope that your dealer has more success.

Well... Picked it up today. Saw the worksheet, £2700 plus VAT!

And... on the way home it started smelling a bit 'wet;...

Not sure what to do..

Stick the heater on full blast so that any of the remaining damp can evaporate, and open the windows, or use A/C, so that the resulting humidity can be removed. No idea how an A5 can be less comfortable than a TT but hopefully your problems are over once you get rid of the remaining damp.
