Thank you for the people who provided usefull information. Unfortunately some of the people on this topic prefer to blame the victim, maybe because they don't know that if u take an object found on the street & doesnt belong to you it might be theft, no matter if the owner left it or forgot it there.
As you say it MIGHT be theft but anyone with half a brain must know there are people that look at things left laying around will take the chance to take it.
Not everyone has your sense of morals and IMO if you are old enough to stay in those places you must also understand that point. Gone are the days that I remember well when we all could leave our doors open when going out knowing our things were safe and there was a good chance your neighbour would have your kettle boiling when you got back.
Life moves on and these days SOME people take advantage of people like yourself who put temptation in their path, so to save it happening too often take control of YOUR items that way you will not be posting this type of problem;)0 -

Bear in mind that the majority of people on here who are "blaming you" wouldn't actually steal from you!
If you've got a beef with anyone, it should be the people who are stealing from you! The people in the hostels!
They are the people who seek to deprive you of something.
In a nutshell, the 'negative' people on her are effectively telling you to be a bit more streetsmart and a bit less trusting, as people can and will shaft you given the opportunity.
If you don't safeguard your own money and belongings then eventually people, especially those who gravitate towards cheap accommodation, will clean you out! Remember, you wouldn't be a victim in the first place if you did that! So partial blame is on you...0 -

Your forgetfulness is not the Hotel's/Hostel's problem it's YOURS! Take responsibility!0 -
Hello,
It usually happens in the common areas, like lounge/tv room, interior locked garden, etc, where there is CCTV. I call the police when the value exceeds 10£ but in most cases it's under this value.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0
