Debt Free by December 2017

I have been lurking on here for a while and decided to start my own debt free diary! We had to buy a new car last year and along with various other circumstances (broken boiler, sick cat, bathroom with tiles falling off and broken shower), we are currently repaying our debt.

The amount stands at £6750.02 and I would like this paid off by December 2017 as we will be saving for a wedding from January 2018 (it is taking all the willpower I have to not start buying wedding things!)

Have seen that lots of people on here are really supportive so would appreciate it as I work towards a DFD.

Current debt:
£4100 to parents - interest free
£2650.02 credit card - interest free

Good luck with the debt repayments. I would also save an emergency fund as all those things you mention could happen again at any time and a savings fund which you can use in the future will help you keep out of debt. How much are you repaying each month? At least it is all interest free.

  • Thank you, currently paying £300 per month back to parents and £110 to the Barclaycard. I'm hoping to increase this in August as I'm about to take 10 weeks of half pay because I do a part time MA as well as a full time job and not sure exactly how much I will be bringing in. Going away a week on Wednesday but All Inclusive hotel so will hopefully keep other spends down :).
  • Also payment went out on the Barclaycard yesterday so debt stands at £6640.02, and money to parents goes out next week. Excited to be under £6k :).
  • Under £6k soon, won't let me edit...
  • Spent £50.41 on groceries/household things today although hoping this will see us through as much as possible until we go on holiday on the 2nd May :). H2B's birthday tomorrow but activities have been given as a gift and staying in for tea :).
  • Hope you and HTB have a great time for his birthday. Sounds like you have a great plan for paying off your debt and have found a good balance between work and study and life which is definitely something I can learn from! Jealous of your holiday, once the debt is gone that's the very first thing I'm saving for!!
Loan £13,339.81 (4.9%) Current End Date Dec 2020

    CC2 £2500 (0% for another 20 months)
    Total: £19335.81:eek:
  • Thank you, we were debating about a holiday, but getting away helps us to recharge and it's nice to have hot weather for a week :D. The holiday was £650 all inclusive for both of us at a really nice hotel so although not being used to pay off debt, not as expensive as it could have been :).

  • Thank you Bob :D.

Money to parents went out yesterday so debt currently at £6340.02, might pay the £40.02 off the credit card at some point to make it a straight £6300! Although will wait until after holiday to see if we have leftover pennies :D.

H2B away for the weekend so a long weekend of essay writing ahead. Excited to submit on Tuesday.

Planning to live from food I already have in the house so we will see how that goes :D, might be some interesting meal combinations...
