À a da it demands what you mean by expensive. I bought 10 packs of 10 I think for something like £60. To me it is money very well invested.
  • I have B12 deficiency from past 2 months. My doctor suggested me to take b12 rich animal food to overcome the deficiency. But I am a vegan person so I can't include animal food in my diet. Being a vegan person I had limited options in food which is not sufficient to overcome the deficiency. Along with my daily diet, I have to take B12 supplements to overcome the deficiency.

What about skimmed milk? Having just had an attack of gout, and studying the medical journals online, all day, ever since, I found that it's the most highly recommended food for reducing the risk of gout. It's probably not B12 stopping the gout, but it is a highly recommended source. I'm now drinking the amount that showed the significant reduction in gout - just 1/2 litre a day, I was probably drinking about a 1/4 litre of full fat anyway, so this is no hardship (full fat isn't bad for gout, but not good either,... )

I had a full blood count test 2 weeks ago, and it showed i have a type of anemia but doctor said its not iron deficient anemia, so had another test today to check for B12.
So will wait to see if anything shows up.

Those of you whose blood test results were recognised as low, may I ask what the actual values were? (And which test exactly, including units of measurement.) I'm trying to figure out my own blood test results because the Drs just see 'normal' when in fact some things are literally on the bottom threshold of the reference range.

My understanding is that although it can vary in different clinical circumstances, roughly speaking 200-300 is borderline low and below 200 is deficient.
I've been as low as 126, and dipped below 200 last time withdrawing my medication was tried.
The test has many names (such as Serum B12) and is typically expressed in pg/mL units.

Thank you :) I asked about the test name because there's the test for total B12 and then there's the one for active B12, i.e. how much has been absorbed and is available for use. I can't remember the biological specifics though.
  • The chance of obtaining Active B12 in the NHS is not high by all accounts...
