    Unfortunately there is no real regulation for the construction industry and associated trades. There are some attempts at self regulation, but many traders do not belong to any scheme.

    There is no absolute way to find a good trader. I had what I thought was a very good decorator who did the upstairs rooms very well. I had him back a few months later to do some downstairs work, and it was not nearly as good.

    One factor to look for is whether the trader belongs to any scheme where they have signed up to an ADR, as this could help if things go wrong,
