Gas Leak New Boiler

Hi there

So I'm renovating my first home. First main job was to replace an old boiler tank system with a combi boiler.

Few quotes layer I decided on one company who supplied a worcester cdi compact and filter with a ten year guarantee.

Several weeks layer I came home after a few days away to smell gas. I called the gas emergency line and the engineer attended within an hour. Basically the new pipe by the gas meter had corroded - engineer said due to the flux. He said if I hadn't called and left it any longer the house my have exploded. He fixed the leak.

I emailed the company who installed everything who said they will take a look but said flux does not corrode copper pipes but will look at it anyway.

I don't know what to do from here. It's all fixed but feel it was a very poor job given the leak and would like mse advice.

Thanks

Flux does corrode copper pipes but it takes years.

Self cleaning flux will corrode copper quite quickly if not cleaned off after use.

But in a couple of weeks though? I've seen lots of bad joints before, but has still taken years to have any degree of corrosion to cause a leak. Could just be a poor joint rather than a problem with flux, and was being masked by the flux.

either way they should of carried out a tightness test when they fitted the boiler, which would of highlighted any leaks and now a couple of weeks later you have a leak you got to be blaming that company.

Did the emergency guy tell you how big the leak was in mb's.

I've seen many a unsoldered joint that's held water and gas for many years where a drop test hasn't detected

Usually the emergency gas service just disconnects at the meter to make safe , I've never heard of them making good before

I've never know them to repair before either, wonder if the leak was on the flexi anaconda between the shut off and the governor. They'd replace that.

If it's happened that quick chances are it's on the anaconda on the incoming side of the gas metre. Flux eats through them really really quick.

As the two posts above have said it would have been the anaconda (silver coloured flexible pipe)
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
