Flights to New Zealand Sept/Oct 2008

I have been asked if I want to go to New Zealand next year for a month around end of September beginning of October 2008. Probably to fly to Christchurch but that could be flexible. I believe these flights can be really expensive and so I need to get a realistic ball park figure of costs to be able to decide if there is a realistic chance I can afford it. (A student until july 2008)

Can anyone give me ideas as to how to get a good price ?
I am confused as to whether it best to book far in advance or wait until nearer the time and wait from some offers to come along.
Also recommentation of good people to Fly with

Any I advice would be much appreaciated.

Hi, We did some research on this for a trip Nov07 to Jan08 now booked Singapore Air after good reviews all prices were similar. £1577 return for two of us.

Thanks I looked on Singapore Air but there wesite only goes up to July 08 so couldnt get a quote ! Actaully this seems to be the case for quite a few of the website. I need quotes for Sept/Oct 08 so they are no use !
