Does Hastings directs SmartMiles allow you to increase your mileage allowance? And is there an extra charge if you don't update it but go over the allowed amount!? I cannot find any information on the website or on my insurance policy.

Make sure you contact them before you go over the mileage allowance.

Lots of negative posts about the smartmiles where the policies got cancelled. The last thing you want is a cancelled policy.
