Admiral Multicar NCB Confusion

Hi all,

Myself and the Mrs currently have a multicar policy and it's time for renewal. I'm looking to shop around but the policy details are a bit of a muddle.

My wife had/has 14yr NCB (she recently had an at fault accident but had protected NCB so documents still show 14yr).
I've been a named driver on the multicar policy for 3yrs with no claims personally (so believe I should now have 3yr NCB?).

The issue is, for shopping around, the renewal documents aren't clear regarding NCB - both policies are listed under my wife's name and the NCB are assigned to the relevant cars, not drivers. So do I have NCB I can use elsewhere or not?

TIA.

Ask Admiral about this, but if you have only been a named driver then you have nil "proper" NCD. (Admiral may award "named driver NCD", though if you are not the named as policyholder then this will be NCD you can only use to buy another admiral policy with)

Nothing to add, but can confirm everything Quentin said.

If you and the Mrs have a car each, you should get one of the policies in your name! On my Admiral multi-car policy, I'm the administrator for the whole thing, but one of the car policies is in my wife's name and she's earning NCB on that one.

cgray25, I was in exactly the same position as you with 3 years 'Admiral multicar NCB' as a named driver on my wifes policy- we moved to another insurer at the last renewal and I set up a policy in my own name with zero NCB on one of the cars as I am now the main user . A couple of weeks later Admiral sent us both proof of NCB letters in which mine stated 3 years, I was able to send this to my new insurer who duly applied the NCB and amended the premium accordingly.

Thanks for the info patchman - spoke to Admiral and they confirmed you can't normally officially transfer the NCB, however, they can issue a letter which your new insurer may choose to allow at their discretion.

However, I've stuck with them as they price matched the quotes I had from another insurer (though it's still way too much on a couple of 9yr old cars!).
