Unfortunately I needed an automatic and have had transmission problems with both fords I've had in the past so vowed to not touch a ford again.
We decided that it was more important to get something safe for travelling with our 1yr old and the Astra SRi has a load of safety features, so decided to plunge for a 6 month old car with 2.5 yrs warranty. Was a lot more than we budgeted for but we won't need to change it for a long time.
I will be looking for a cheaper car later on in the year to replace my 55 plate 307cc but will be looking at spending sub £5k so will be back for advice when the time comes
