Buying with benefits

Normally if you sell the house where you normally occupy the amount is disregarded for I THINK 6 months while you find another property to purchase so wont effect your benefits, but you will have to inform the DWP/council.
If you buy with a partner until he moves in your benefits wont be affected, however you and he will now have a financial connection and you may have to prove you are not a 'household' while still claiming as a single person

I'm pretty sure this is not good advice. I believe it's not about living together - it's about being a couple - equivalent to being husband and wife. There is no way you can buy a house with your partner and claim you aren't in a serious relationship equivalent to marriage. For example, a couple who live apart (eg. husband working at sea or has a flat in the city near to job) would still be a couple for benefits purposes.0 -
Would you be able to buy into a shared ownership that you could eventually staircase to 100 percent as and when you are in a position to buy the extra shares?
This could solve your problems in the short term.0 -
Re Cakeguts' question above, if two people buy together using a residential mortgage deal, it's perfectly fine, if only one of them moves in.
If, however, the new partner bought the property without Zomjo, then the situation would be different, as Zomjo is not a close family member of the new partner, so the transaction wouldn't qualify for a residential mortgage and would have to be on a BTL basis. In this case, yes, Zomjo would become a tenant.
Shared ownership could also be an option as per the suggestion above. When buying a share, it could be paid for from the equity from the sale of the previous home (without a mortgage), just have to make sure that the rent and the service charge on the "un-bought" share are affordable from the income that Zomjo has. As and when the new partner moves in, further share or even the full remaining share could be purchased by adding the new partner to a potential new mortgage and the title deed.I am a Mortgage BrokerYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. If Zomjo (just for example) bought a shared ownership would they then be entitled to HB for the rent on their on their un-bought share?0

If she bought it on her own.
Not if she bought it with her new partner, and honestly considering she is wanting to buy a house with a partner his income should be taken into account, but living so far apart currently it may not be noticed.0
