Mouse Keys

In view of a hand pain problem, I am using a variety of strategies to reduce the use of my mouse. I am using the Mouse Keys facility. Thus the 5 key on the keypad is the same as left click on the mouse.
However, holding down 5 for sometime is not the same as holding down the left click on the mouse.
Can the key board be made to simulate hold left mouse click down?

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

I can't help with your question, but I had bad RSI from using a mouse. After trying a variety of expensive ergonomic mice and playing around with MouseKeys, etc., I bought a trackball.
It's been amazing -- my right hand was so painful, I started using it with my left hand. Unlike a mouse, it's actually quite easy to control in my left hand.
If you're interested, the one I use is the Logitech "Marble Mouse". It was later released as the Logitech "Trackman Marble", but they're identical. It's £25 on Amazon.

As for the original question, I just found this, which might point you in the right direction:

All the key combinations listed at bottom of article work fine for me on W10.

Thank you, amongst many strategies, I tried the Logitech Mouse. That did not work in my circumstances. I have to try avoiding bending my fingers. Using Number Key 5 as a left click, I have fixed a large button to the key to hit with my palm and straight fingers (fortunately, I am left handed). Among the answer posted here, I found an answer.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

You need a good mouse and a chair (set to correct height) with armrests.......... If your moving the mouse far enough for your elbow to come away from a chair armrest, then it's set too slow.
On a 27inch monitor, running 1920x1080, my mouse will cross from side to side with a hand movement of less than 2 inches, so most centre screen movement can be done purely with thumb and "pinky" finger.
Posture is a big one too, at one point I got into the habit of leaning forward at the PC and the pain it caused in my wrist, arm, back and neck, was terrible.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You may want to look at changing your mouse. Mice are not all the same and they come in different sizes with different shapes of "hump"on the top and some are shaped to make your fingers and thumbs follow a certain pattern. You should always try to go to a store where there are a good selection of mice you can actually try as buying a mouse for a computer is like buying a pair of shoes and you need to buy one that fits you best. Not doing so can cause all kinds of pain and long term injury. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
