Yeah I saw the complaints board. Clarks refused to do anything about a person's shoes that did this and they were only 10 years old and worn regularly. Disgusting attitude by the company.

And all the brand new ones?

Once they're out of clarks hands they have no idea what you're doing with them.

People usually buy shoes to wear, not hoard in a cupboard.

I heard of this years ago, but many substances degrade over the years. Hot water bottles , even when stored correctly (empty, stopper out and upside down) come to mind, as becoming brittle and unsafe.

But surely Clarks shoes should last until the end of time ? What a ridiculous post ! Clarks are mass produced mid price range shoes, if you don't wear them and they rot in your wardrobe, how is that Clarks fault ?

This isn't about shoes lasting till the end of time, or even ten years. It's simply about brand new shoes not being worn immediately and being taken out of their box a year or two later having dissolved or broken into pieces (as in the video). There are plenty more videos showing exactly the same thing - the one I linked to is just one of many.

Here'a a link to many more complaints on the same issue: https://www.complaintboard.com/clark-shoes-l1532.htm

How is it Clarks fault? Are you serious? They're the ones who decided to use the faulty sole material to cut costs, and they admit they made a mistake. What they won't do, however, is accept financial responsibility for it.

Who buys shoes and doesn't wear them until a year or two later?

Large numbers of people, obviously, given the sheer volume of complaints about this. Not that uncommon to buy an extra pair in a sale and put them by. :)

Is it a sheer volume? I would think Clark's sale run into the millions each year so what you are reporting as a large volume is insignificant based on total annual sales.

There are plenty of crappy shoes out there. These failed on me in very short order, They were cheap though and if I'd paid Clarkes prices for them I'd have been a lot more miffed

You make a good point there. Clarks are not cheap shoes and most people buying them expect them to last a year or two without falling to pieces in a sticky mess of molten plastic.

That's what's happening - and that's why people need to check their Clarks shoes. It's a very common problem, and a bit of Googling shows just how prevalent the problem is - not just in the UK but everywhere else Clarks sell.
