O/S Daily Monday 17 April 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy, dull and overcast here, wet underfoot and rain looks set in for all day.
DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day, both boys still in their pits, leaving them to enjoy a lie-in, as we have nothing special to do today, I'll just be doing a roast beef dinner, and organising pack ups etc ready to be going back to work tomorrow.
Yesterday we had a lovely lunch at mum's bro cooked slow roasted lamb and served it with mustard mash, and french peas (it was a mixture of peas, little gem lettuce, bacon, onion and stock I think) it was all really tasty and enjoyed by everyone and a nice change from a big roast. I made a chocolate tart and apple crumble, which we also enjoyed, I brought the last slice of chocolate tart and the remainder of the apple crumble back home, I don't leave desserts at mum's as she's diabetic and not good at leaving them alone, she doesn't do as she's told and her diabetes is not particularly controlled that well, so it's being cruel to be kind. Her and my dad, bro and sis in law had also been out for dinner on Saturday night and she'd had dessert there too. Lunch today will be roast beef, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy. The caravan meeting that we went to last night was nice to meet up with people we haven't seen for a while, it was good to catch up.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A miserable start here too but forecast to pick up with a bit of sun. Sadly to remain chilly.
I never got on here yesterday as I let a phone call Sat pm from Mr TA's "I only think of myself" sister get to me, as only she can. I spent a sleepless night dwelling on it and all day yesterday under a black cloud. I shovelled down a double layer box of chocs (from DD) to try and cheer myself up. I then felt sick and they didn't cheer me up either. Surprisingly I slept better last night.
Today we have a family meet up which will include the said sister. It doesn't bode well and I would rather not go feeling as I do. Sadly Mr TA wants to go and I couldn't be so unfeeling as to make him go alone. I shall hide in a corner somewhere and keep my mouth shut.
Have a better day than me folks and (HUGS) to all the poorlies, sad or worried who want one. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
T/A bite your tongue honey and just look at her and think ,'What a sad person you must be to be like this '
I too had a relative who was very obnoxious but I just used to think
'she's the one with the problem not me' and I would keep schtum .After all you don't have to live with them:)thank goodness
Thanks nlmc for starting us off,I woke up at an unearthly time for some reason and was wide awake ,so I got up made a cuppa and have been surfing the net.No doubt I shall start to flag a bit later
Yesterday was brilliant as my DGS Ben came home from Uni for a few days with his young lady Candice.
He is looking really good, and enjoying every minute of his time there.
She is off to Canada in May on an internship until mid-August, but Ben will be going out there to see her in July for a few weeks.
He has been working very hard at his studies, and also working three nights a week to raise the cash for his fare (I may help him out a bit when I come back from my break next week:))
We had a lovely family dinner, with and easter egg hunt before for all the youngsters.
The boys love it that their Mum still hides eggs and makes them hunt for them even though they are all virtually huge young chaps aged 12, 15,16 & 21 and even his girlfriend got caught up in it all as DD had hidden some for her as well :)great time was had by all though
today its BBQ day at their house so I shall be off again later on.
Tomorrow normality returns as the youngest three go back to school and peace reigns once more Ben and his girfriend don't have to go back to Norwich until Thursday so I shall get a chance to chat to them more before they go back.
The weather is dry and a bit cloudy, but no rain is forecast at least so the BBQ will be OK.
Right, now its time to have some more coffee, hope you all have a good bank holiday monday what ever you are doing ,enjoy

Good morning everyone.
When I woke earlier the sun was bright but it's all gone cloudy now.
My friends arrived early evening, two adults, one young adult, one youth and one almost youth. Five bikes, ten bags and a stack of food all in one car. It was so lovely to see them again though we didn't spend much time together yesterday as they'd had a very long drive. The daughter (young adult) is staying with me at nights. She arrived back by bike sometime after I was asleep.
TA - you're doing a blooming good job of looking after MrTA, it sounds tough going. Try to get a long drink and nurse it in a corner.
Must make a move, all's quiet from the spare room so I'll shower and get myself downstairs.
There's chicken and fried potatoes for later, that's all I've got in my plan!
Happy Monday.0 -
Morning :hello:
I can't tell you how happy I was to open my smarties Easter egg and find the smarties inside the egg
Using the laptop is much easier now, typing and using the mouse isn't painful like before, just irritating sometimes. So I've ordered dog supplies, done a grocery shop and added lots of info to work spreadsheets. I've gone through some of the docs on the was-lost-but-now-found memory stick and added the info to the new ones I had to make. In the last seven years, my chickens have laid 10911 eggs!
I bought three packs of chicken pieces the other day, they were on offer so worked out cheaper than buying a whole chicken. I've split them into portions in bags, rearranged the freezer a bit and managed to fit them in. Such a small thing really but I was so pleased I could take the drawers out and get it done. I can't actually lift the drawers, but I can carry them at waist height for a few steps, then stand on tiptoe and slide them forward onto the worktop :rotfl:

I'm very much enjoying not speaking to people, lol. No phone calls or visitors, I just see the occasional local person when I take Scampi out. And the other trus, but only because they live hereToday will be the same. I have no plans, other than to sit in front of the telly with my Easter chocolate and watch films.

Morning All
Last day of the holidays for me, have a friend coming for a late lunch for a catch up. Had a lovely meal at friends yesterday but was a little stuffed!
I'll have a walk to Ald! the long way round for some fresh air and exercise - I really need to get moving more, perhaps the weather will cheer up soon and I'll be more motivated.
Hope all goes well today TA, always difficult to be in the company of someone you don't like.
Have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Washer on with towels in, its very grey OH says its going to rain, so hope I can get them dry outside before it rains, do not mind finishing them off in the dryer.
Small freezer defrosted, cleaned out and now on Gumtree.
Monday clean to do, only did the bathroom and toilet last week CNBA to do anything else, was not in a good place, and the week got worse.
OH is going to start cleaning the car ready for our trip next week, not really in the mood but will see how things go.0 -
Good Morning everyone, we've another gorgeous day here but a chilly little wind is cooling it down. If you're in a sheltered spot in the sun though you can feel like it's spring.
Rhubarb in slow cooker and more coming from the allotment for making some rhubarb and ginger jam tomorrow and soup simmering on the hob for this weeks lunches using up the very last few leeks from the garden that had flower buds inside them, I seem to spend quite a lot of my life making soup but we both like soup for lunch so it's OK!
Nothing planned for today but we have lots of rugby recorded to watch and the IPL T20 cricket is on at the moment so I don't think we'll be bored and also the usual dog walk and allotment/garden jobs so I think we'll fill our time.
He Who Knows is out washing and polishing the car and giving it an inside clean and I'm just about to steam mop the downstairs floors, we know how to live!!!0 -
Morning all
Bright day here again but feels a bit colder with a sharp wind, it will be good for drying the washing.
Yesterday we cut the plum tree back to a more manageable size, it was only meant to get to ten foot tall but its gone mad and was taller than the house next door  I hope its not killed it but this is the correct time to cut them back apparently. We also cleaned out the little shed, its amazing the amount of stuff you hold onto 'just in case' !! we will never use it so its all in bags ready to take to the tip, I might try and get some taken today.
We also unearthed the BBQ and OH gave it a good clean so if the weather stays ok we might make use of it today, I will have to get a couple of bits from the shop but we have most things.
I saw an advert for a garden table chairs and umbrella reduced to £75 from £130 in B & Q last night, ours is on its last legs so I would like to go and have a look at that too.
The dog dragged us into the pub after her walk last night an there was a man in there who was completely off his face drunk he was shouting at the bar girls and crashing into / kicking furniture the girls were obviously frightened of him and in the end they kicked him out and called a taxi, we were sitting outside with the dog who was growling at him, it was horrible, the taxi came and saw the state of him and refused to take him, so he was last seen walking down the middle of the street shouting and screaming (thank god its a quiet village street) I bet he has a sore head this morning:rotfl:
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, cloudy damp and rather cold here, as it was yesterday, though yesterday's rain is holding off so far.
I got up at 4.30 and have achieved precisely zilch, Nadal, nuffin so far, and now I am going to do (attempt) the Times jumbo crossword.
I can't think what to cook, I have a freezer full of things that can be turned into meals so am waiting for inspiration to strike.
TA, that's not much fun but at least only for one part of one day. I don't get on with some rellies either so I can empathise.
I think I might need to put the heating on, even if at a very low level, unheard of in April.
Hope everyone has a good day or at least a day with some good bits in.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hello all, my it feels quite cold today.
Had a lovely family day yesterday although DGD was a bit poorly so we all chilled in the afternoon and watched Pete's Dragon. Everybody was still full at teatime so only cake or chocolate and raspberry strudel was needed. I also gave my Dad a haircut before he went home.
We tried to get to H*lf*ds this moring but the road leading to the retail park was choc-a-bloc so gave that a miss and called in L*dl's instead for fruit, which we seem to be getting through at a rate of knots lately. Called in DD's on the way home to deliver the rest of the cakes from yesterday and have a cup of coffee.
Spent some time after lunch tidying up, emptying and refilling DW, but now we are going to put our feet up. Tea tonight will be burgers and fried potatoes both from yesterdays leftovers.
TA I hope everything goes ok today.
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
