I know several people who live in Watton. All of them dislike it but cannot afford to move to a different area. It is cheaper than other areas like attleborough and wymondam
There has been an influx in the past few years of people who have come to work in the farms and food processing plants close by.
Without going into details, this has caused some community tensions.
I know Attleborough and it is a great place to live.
I don't know much about Melton Constable but have never heard anything bad about it.0 -
Agree Attleborough is pleasant; I nearly bought a house nearby, in Old Buckenham, until I plumped for this one. Easy access to Norwich, a good (small) range of shops and services, a decent Sainsburys (and Lidl), good bus service, socially pleasant.
Wasn't aware of trouble in Watton, but it is a very busy through-route with no by-pass. There is a prison nearby... if escapees worry youIt is cheaper than most, and there are small, cheap villages around it.
Both the above are small towns, not villages like Freethorpe. Sutton is back to a village and, although I don't know it directly, I do know its neighbour, Catfield. (Catfield Hall's owner and me share the same interests in environmental issues and rare breed sheep (and goats) and swap stock!). Catfield is a pleasant small and friendly village, with pretty, if rather bland countryside around. I think Sutton is less attractive, more recent development, many more bungalows... but, as I say, no direct knowledge of what it's really like to live in it.
I, too, know nothing of Melton Constable.
However, the problem with internet recommendations is there's no reason your likes and mine would agree. Lively evening social life revolving around clubs and winebars isn't exactly my focus, and neither is a wide range of shopping.0 -
Well unfortunately due to family reasons the landlord has taken the property off the market........
I'm moving from Basildon so i understand that where i am moving to will likely be very different and am fully prepared for that.
I have been up to view a property in Attleborough and 3 in Thorpe Marriott but they all seemed to be built from the same mould with living rooms that were too small for my liking..........My next viewings are going to be in Watton and Melton Constable so hopefully better luck there!
Don't go to Watton!!!! I live in Attleborough. We've actually just bought here after living in rented here for the past 2 years. It's small and nice. Very friendly people. Mainly commuters so the centre gets busy in the morning and afternoon but clears pretty quickly. I like it - easy to get to most arts of Norfolk. I used to work in KL and now work in Yarmouth
Melton Constable is nice. After the NDR is completed, it'd be easy to get to Norwich from there but for now, it's a commuters hell from that part of the county. Sutton, small village too. We viewed a house there but decided against it.0 -
Thanks so much for all the opinions, really helpful!0
