What happens when you cancel your package with Virgin Media to try & get a good/better retention deal ?

When does your current package end ?
Are you basically giving notice and they will cancel your current package on set date ?

If you then cancel cancellation, do you just carry on with current old package ?

I'm having a real problem getting a reasonable discount this year, messed it up end of last year in Nov 2016 with last price rise, and may have to go for nuclear option which I haven't done before.

I've always got my discounts when there has been a price rise, so there has always been that issue to argue about & justify getting discount, retentions have been more amenable.
Now 4-5 months after last price rise, there doesn't seem urgency or need for retentions to give me a deal when I phone. I've tried phoning them 3-4 times, they have notes of previous calls and become more difficult/obstinate about it.

I know that retentions may/will phone you if you cancel your package, but want to know what happens in mean time to your current old package when you have started cancellation process, do you just carry on with current old package until end date.

I'm on a permanent special retention deal from years ago and don't want to lose it, but want a discount/one-off credit of ~£50+ that I usually manage to get.

Thanks
.

Don't be too surprised if Virgin call your bluff if you already on a deal..

you put your notice in and 30 days later you get cut off. You can undo the cancellation. People have reported the TV can stop almost instantly.

If the saleman is particularly arsy he can remove any deals that have been offered in the runup to you being forced to cancel.

If you undo the cancellation, you generally go back on the same service.

But have a backup plan prepaired
