ending tenancy

I need to end my tenancy early but I have been told I would have to pay a finders fee or pay the rent for the remainder of the tenancy , I'm a 70 year old woman on pension credit and cant afford either as well as rent another property, my reason for wanting to leave is a vicious attack took place in the apartment above me and spilled over to my landing , which as you can imagine has made me very anxious and unsettled

You have entered into a contract and the only way to end it early is by negotiation with the landlord which may come at a cost to you. How long is left to run, any break clause ?0

Whilst we can sympathise with your situation, the legal position is not altered either by your age, or by what happened outside.
Do you know who attacked who? Is the attacker in police custody?
As for ending the tenancy:
* what exact date dd you last sign/renew a fixed term agreement?
* how long was it for, or what is the end date?
* is there a 'Break Clause' in the tenancy agreement? Have you looked to check?
* who have you spoken to about this? The landlord, or a letting agent?0
