EAN and MPN numbers

Can someone explain are EAN and MPN numbers the same thing?
I know EAN is the barcode number and MPN stands for Manufacturers Part Number but what is that and where do you find it?

No they aren't the same.

EAN is the barcode. MPN is the reference given by the manufacturer.

If you manufacture your own goods you need to purchase/license EANs. You can make up an MPN to be whatever you like.

Not Same.

EAN number is International Article Number also known as European Article Number is a numeric barcode number which maintained by GS1.

A manufacturer part number is a series of numbers and/or letters that has been given to a part by the manufacturer. An MPN identifies the part as belonging to and originating from that one manufacturer.

I've given up with EAN and MPN numbers, the fake EAN numbers I bought work but make no noticeable difference to my sales so I use 'does not apply' to everything. The real ones I take off of new products don't work at all.

I use MPN just for stock notes for myself.
