Ministers have announced four changes to the current test which will come into force on 4 December.
Learner drivers will have to be able to follow directions from a sat nav and drive into a parking space to pass their test.
Disabled Motoring UK also supports the changes because many disabled drivers use sat navs regularly.
There seems to be a focus on using sat navs?

Does being a disabled driver mean lacking in sense of direction???0 -

Not really, only one of the four changes involves using a satnav and then 1 in 5 test won't include it and you will have to follow road signs instead.
I don't think the changes go far enough, it needs a complete overhaul.0 -
which is very useful when some plank with a shovel has dug a big hole in the road and you got to go on a de tour..............please make a U turn when possible etc0

It makes sense to bring it into the driving test, if only to highlight that if the road your sat nav is telling you to take appears to go straight into a field of cows, it probably does.
Replacing reversing round a corner with reversing into or out of a car park space makes sense too. Who reverses round a corner like you do for a driving test, once you've passed?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I reversed round a corner on Wednesday morning.
I also reversed round a corner in my motorhome yesterday.0 -

No one, probably, but isn't the point of that test to see whether you can control the car accurately when driving in reverse?I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -

Expect a rise in insurance premiums then
At least when a nervous learner on their test reverses round a corner they usually only hit the kerb, now they can take the corner off a parked car insteadI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I can see the younger drivers having a problem with the sat-nav bit. If they are under 21 they hate to be told what to do. 0
