Estate agents

I'm considering selling my 2 bed flat in south east London and purchasing a house with my partner. My flat is the only property I've purchased so I've had no experience of selling before. Is it better to go with a traditional high street estate agent or one of the new online agents like Tepilo, purple bricks or YOPA? My flat is approximately worth £250,000 and one agent has indicated fees would be around £5000 so the online option is looking much cheaper but I'm concerned about how effective they would be. Any advice would be appreciated.

The agent who is quoting £5k is taking the pee. Go to at least 2 other agents for prices and don't be afraid to haggle down.0

I've never paid more than 1% + VAT. You should easily get that price.
I'm currently for sale with a traditional EA as I felt everyone else talked me into it. Regretted every day - should have put it up with an online agent. We've gained absolutely zilch by being with a local EA. Will soon be swapping to either housenetwork or eMoov. Ruled all the others out. You have a year to complete with them rather than 6 or so months with others. You need to pay the whole fee again if they don't sell. I also want to be able to pay at the end, not upfront.

Spend £1000 making the flat highly desirable then find the cheapest online agent who uses rightmove and it will sell anyway and save you £3k in fees.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

It all depends if you're priced right.
As for your OP, you'll find people who swear by online agents, and others who'll disparage them.
Con online
* customer service (for both buyer/seller) can be 'wobbly'
* if you pay fixed fee upfront, and don't sell, the money's lost
* Many people suggest a traditional EA is better at getting sellers a higher price, compensating for the higher fee
Pro online:
* much cheaper
* errrrr...........0
