HSBC Advance account

Hey. Has anyone else opened the Advance account to do the switch and noticed they have not been offered an overdraft despite it saying the minimum overdraft amount is £1000?

I currently bank with Nationwide and have a £5000 overdraft which i rarerly dip into. I wanted to do the switch but i know so much could go wrong when moving all your direct debits and SO plus your salary.

Once the account had been accepted I called HSBC to ask how much my overdraft was. The lady told me she couldnt see at the minute but it would be a min of 1000 as per the T&C's.

I called up now I can see the account on my online banking stating £0 overdraft and the guy could barely understand a word i was saying. He rang through to the Advance team who told him i had £0 overdraft and would have to wait 6 months before applying for one.

Surely this isnt correct.

What an absolute joke they are.

So i decided to call back only to be told the min £1000 overdraft isnt on the website and they cannot see it.

The lady then called me back 15 mins later to say she now can see it on their website but it is subject to applying for the overdraft and yet another credit check. I dont think that is correct as you say it only says subject to proving address etc.

I am in thr middle of applying for a mortgage with HSBC and dont want 2 credit checks for one account and no way would i switch without any sort of buffer on the account.

Looks like i will miss out on the 200 switching bonus
  • I applied online and there was a box to tick if I wanted an overdraft. I ticked it and Then I was asked to type in how much of an overdraft I wanted. I got the letter saying my overdraft was approved before I even got confirmation that the account was open. It is a really frustrating bank to deal with.
