Should daughter take out a student loan?

Options
Hi all

We live in Scotland & my 17 year old daughter has signed up for a 1 year college course (HNC). She hopes to work with children / schools - possibly eventually doing teacher training (although this is just a possibility).

We are in the fortunate position that the family income is above the threshold for her to be entitled to any bursarys (around 55k between my wife & I) and my daughter also has savings (through inheritances) of just over 20k.

She will continue living at home but will commute around 25 miles to college (by bus). We stay out in the sticks :-)

She doesnt currently have any income / job.

I've been looking at the issue of student loans and trying to figure out what might be best for her.

My better half doesnt see that she needs to take a loan out whereas I can see that financially it appears to make sense.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???
