Aldi Metal Paint

we are going to paint our garage door white which is metal. We notice Aldi Metal paint is significantly cheaper than Hammerite paint. Has anybody used the Aldi Metal paint or am I better off buying the Hammerite paint and paying a lot more.

I think it is like anything else paint wise and if you buy a premium brand the result is better and longer lasting, I know this applies to internal paints so would presume the same for outdoor paint to.

I've used both and actually prefer the Aldi stuff.

The trouble is that you can't rely on Aldi to have it on the shelf when you need it and you can't get it anywhere else.

You are not restricted to just those two paints.

With a suitable primer you can used gloss paint or any paint suitable for outdoor use.

Dulux Weathershield is one of many options.
  • Aldi metal paint (The brand is called Deco) is thinner and not such a good quality as Hammerite paint. However we used it to paint our garage door and it did the job fine, at a lot less cost than the Hammerite paint which is expensive. If buying the Aldi metal paint ensure you purchase more than enough as Aldi do tend to run out of this paint and take some time replenishing their stock.I believe it cost £4.99 a litre. it is meant to be rust protection and paint all in one. Hammerite I believe is nearer £20.

I tend to use Hammerite on the more difficult bits that won't be repainted very often and a similar colour but cheaper paint on the more easy to repaint bits.

I've spent the last couple of days repainting my tin-shed garage sides but the roof, which I did in Hammerite over twelve years ago needed virtually no work to keep it good and solid this time - the sides have been repainted twice since.

    Quality shows! :)
