Making my own dress

We've started saving money by making our own clothes and I want to make this Tilly and the Buttons dress from the Makery for my wife.
I'm going to start it this Easter weekend and hoping it turns out good. Does anyone else make their own clothes?

Yes - but I certainly wouldn't pay £14.50 for a pattern like this. Much too expensive - try the normal ranges like Simplicity which are half the price (or less).0

It's slightly cheaper on the actual Tilly and the Buttons website. If you'll make several like it then it might be a reasonable investment, quite pricey for a one off pattern! I'm not sure how much money you actually save making your own clothes - depends on what sort of clothes and where you'd normally buy them. I struggle to make basic T shirts cheaper than buying them in Tesco, but I get to use the offcuts for nice trims, hair clips etc so I end up with something nicer for the same price + time. I certainly saved a lot making an occasion dress - the fabric cost was around £20, pattern another £8ish whereas a similar dress would be much more expensive and worse fitting! Plus then I had all matching accessories0
